Athens Junior High 8th A Volleyball Team Rallies for a Huge Win Over North Penn-Liberty

The Athens Junior High 8th A Volleyball Team made a statement on the court tonight, bouncing back from last week’s setbacks to claim a thrilling three-set victory over North Penn-Liberty! The Wildcats showcased resilience, determination, and skill in a hard-fought battle, winning 2-1 in sets.

Athens came out swinging in the first set, taking an early lead, but North Penn-Liberty’s strong serving game proved challenging. Despite the Wildcats' best efforts, they fell 16-25. Key contributions came from Hailey Smith and Jonica Walters, who both racked up four points and an ace each. Madison Sinsabaugh chipped in with 2pts including an ace, while Addison Moss, Sinsabaugh, Smith, each added kills to keep the offense alive.

In the second set, Athens came roaring back, led by a fantastic team performance at the service line. Madison Sinsabaugh lit up the court with nine points and an incredible eight aces, putting Athens in command. Kayla Forbes added five points and four aces, while Emilynn McQuay and Addison Moss each contributed with an ace each. At the net, Addison Moss was a force with two kills, helping Athens to dominate and win the set 25-16, forcing a decisive third set.

With the momentum on their side, Athens kept up the pressure in the final set, maintaining their lead throughout. Addison Moss led the charge with four points and an ace, while Lili Miller added three points and Kayla Forbes contributed two points and two aces. Moss continued her offensive presence at the net with another kill, sealing a 15-11 win in set three and the overall victory for the Wildcats!

Defensively, Athens had standout performances by libero Sorana Marica, along with key plays from Hailey Smith in pivotal moments.

The excitement didn’t stop with the A Team, Athens’ 8th B Team showed incredible teamwork and skill, taking down North Penn Liberty in straight sets, 25-15 and 25-17.

The Wildcats were led by Addison Gliemi, who served up three points to get the team rolling. Natalie Reeves was unstoppable at the service line, tallying an impressive nine points. Evelyn Roy was a force to be reckoned with, contributing two points and two aces, including a powerful tip at the net for a kill. Her dynamic saves in the back row also propelled the Wildcats to victory in set one.

In the second set, Evelyn Roy continued to shine, leading the team with five points and two aces. Addison Glielmi added a point and an ace, while Mallory Chandler chipped in with two points and an ace as well. Lucy Cole also contributed with a point and an ace, and Kylie Hill added two points, including a crucial ace that kept Athens in control. Makayla Brinkley also got in on the action, contributing a point and an ace, while Hollingsead, Cole and Hill each delivered kills to help secure the win.

Defensively, the Wildcats were strong, with Roy, Averi Jackson, Glielmi, and Hill making key plays to secure the win.

Athens 8th A (7-2) and 7th B look forward to their next challenge as they face Towanda at home this Wednesday.
