The Athens 8th A Junior High volleyball team faced a tough challenge at home on Saturday, taking on the Troy Trojans.
Despite solid effort, Athens 8th A fell in two closely contested sets, 22-25 and 23-25.
In Set 1, Athens was led by Kayla Forbes, who put up 5 points, including 3 aces, and anchored the team defensively with solid passing. Madison Sinsabaugh added 2 points, including an ace, while Lili Miller and Emilynn McQuay contributed with key serves—Miller with 1 point and an ace, and McQuay with 2 points and 2 aces. At the net, Addison Moss made her presence felt with 2 kills, while Jonica Walters delivered a well-timed tip for a kill, and Katie Kinthala also added a kill of her own.
In Set 2, Athens showed improvement on defense, led by the efforts of Kayla Forbes, Katie Kinthala, and Addison Moss. The Wildcats pushed back against Troy, with strong serving from Addie Moss and Jonica Walters, both of whom contributed 4 points and 3 aces each. Emmalyn McQuay remained steady, adding 2 points and 2 aces, while Madison chipped in with another point and an ace from the service line. Lili Miller was a force at the net with 3 kills and a point from the service line, as Addie Moss and Jonica Walters each added a kill.
In 7th B action, Athens fell to Troy in two sets, 9-25 and 10-25. Natalie Yale contributed 2 points, including an ace, while Ariana Welch had a strong showing with 2 aces. Alayna Lackey added 2 points and an ace, and Hannah Behm notched a kill at the net. Lackey also led the team defensively with impressive effort, focus, and hustle from the back row and while setting.
The 8th A (6-2) and 8th B (3-1) Wildcats are back on the road Monday to face North Penn Liberty.
