The Athens Junior High volleyball team put on an impressive performance tonight in their final home game of the season against North Penn Liberty. Both 8th A and 7th B teams showed determination and skill, securing hard-fought victories in front of their home crowd.
In 8th-A action, Athens swept North Penn Liberty in two straight sets, winning 25-17 and 25-19. Athens dominated at the service line, with minimal errors, making it tough for NPL on serve-receive. Leading the charge for Athens was Lili Miller, who posted 10 points including 4 aces. Madison Sinsabaugh added 9 points with an impressive 8 aces, while Kayla Forbes contributed 7 points, including 3 aces. Other key contributors were Emilynn McQuay with 4 points and 2 aces, Jonika Walters with 3 points, and Addison Moss with 2 points from the service line.
Athens' offense also saw continued growth in attacking the ball. Eden Fedorchak, Emilynn McQuay, Kayla Forbes, Madison Sinsabaugh, and Olivia Frantz each recorded a kill, with Jonica Walters contributing 2 kills. Athens’ overall performance improves their record to 10-2 on the season.
In 7th-B action, Athens pulled out a thrilling three-set win after losing the first set to North Penn Liberty, 20-25. Athens rallied to win Set 2, 25-19, and sealed the victory with a 15-13 win in Set 3. Leading the team at the service line was Alayna Lackey with 8 points including 3 aces, followed by Natalie Yale with 7 points including 5 aces. Hannah Behm added 6 points and 3 aces, while Auriana Welch and Arabella Robbins contributed 6 and 4 points, respectively. Robbins also tallied a kill, and Sorana Marica added 3 points including 1 ace, and led the defense as the libero. This marks the end of the 7th-B season, and the team celebrated their final game with a hard-fought win.
Next up, both the 8th A and 8th B teams will travel to Troy on Monday, where the 8th-A squad is looking for a redemption win as they continue to build on their successful season.
