Bronson, Burgess Turn In Strong Performances At Roddick Invitational

SHIPPENSBURG - Athens junior Abby Burgess and senior Sara Bronson each placed in one event, and Bronson did so in record-breaking fashion here Saturday at the 98th annual Roddick Invitational at Shippensburg University.

"Sara and Abby both had exceptional days against really high-level competition," said Athens coach Mike Bronson.

"They both competed really well, Sara setting a new school record in the 800, and Abby placing 4th in the 100 are just fantastic performances," he added.

Burgess finished fourth in the 100-meter dash in 12.4 seconds. She was 10th in the 200-meter sash in 25.76 seconds.

Bronson finished seventh in the 800-meter run in a school-record time of 2:21.82. She was 12th in the 1,600-meter run in 5:20.35.

Bronson now holds the school records in the 800-meter, 1,600-meter, and 3,200-meter runs at Athens, and also ran a leg on the record-holding 3,200-meter relay.
