ATHENS - Athens rode a strong defensive effort to a 13-point halftime advantage on its way to a 52-41 win over Canton here Wednesday night in NTL boys basketball action.

CANTON - Athens shook off a slow start, and used a strong middle two quarters in a 47-33 win over Canton here Tuesday night in NTL girls basketball action.

TOWANDA - Senior Ethan Hicks, and sophomores Brayden Pettitt and Eli Hicks each won four events to lead the Athens boys to a win over Danville, while the Lady Wildcats fell to the powerhouse Lady Ironman in non-league swimming action here Tuesday.

TUNKHANNOCK - Sophomore Brayden Pettitt and senior Ethan Hicks each had four top-three finishes, and sophomore Eli Hicks had four top-six finishes to lead the Athens boys here Saturday at the Ernie Shartle Invite, while junior Elizabeth Denlinger had four top-four finishes to pace the Lady Wildcats.

JIM THORPE, Pa. - Junior Hanna Rathbun won six straight matches, including four by fall, to win her weight class at the rugged Coal Cracker Invite, leading Athens to a third-place finish in the 58-team field.

WELLSBORO - Freshman Allison Kemp sparked Athens to a fast start in a 54-35 win over Wellsboro here Friday night in NTL Large School girls basketball action.

WYALUSING - Athens dug itself a hole in the opening stanza, and never recovered in a 40-27 loss to Wyalusing here Wednesday night in NTL Large School girls basketball action.

ATHENS - Athens jumped out to an early double-digit lead, and pulled away for a 66-40 win over Wyalusing to snap a six-game losing skid here Tuesday night in NTL Large School boys basketball action.

TOWANDA - Athens won two of its three matches Saturday here at the Towanda Quad meet, topping Mifflinburg and the Black Knights, while falling to a strong Western Wayne squad.

ELMIRA - Sophomores Zaine Campbell and Connor Davidson each finished fourth to lead six Wildcat grapplers on to the podium here Saturday at the third annual Southern Tier Memorial at the LeCom Events Center.

TROY - Troy built a double-digit lead in the first quarter, then blew the game open in the third on its way to a 52-27 win over Athens here Saturday afternoon in NTL Large School Division girls basketball action.
